SIMATS Waste Management Policy
SIMATS developed proper waste management processes and the primary focus is to minimize the waste production using different innovative ideas and techniques. The following different waste management are followed:
Solid waste management:
The Institute has kept different bins to segregate the degradable and non-degradable waste like paper, plastic, food, glass bottles, biomedical, clothes and housewares and electrical wastes which is generated from the medical facilities, food courts, research lab, hostel, gym and stores. An account of the hazardous nature and environmental issues with human health risks, chemical and solvents waste bins were kept separately in laboratories and research labs. Every day, after office hours all the organic and inorganic wastes are collected from bins and transported to the dump yard for further processing and packaging. Institute has implemented smart classrooms to minimize the usage of paper.
Biomedical waste management:
In the case of biomedical wastes, we used to segregate them into infectious, noninfectious wastes. The collected wastes are packed and kept in storage, further disposed after proper pretreatment in registered Tamil Nadu waste management Ltd.
E-waste management:
SIMATS recognizes the importance of Electrical and Electronic equipment and parts play in its academic activities of providing educational services to students. We have developed an awareness programme about e-waste hazards because 80 percent of e-wastes are laptops, cameras, smart phones, air conditioners, routers, printers and calculators, which causes huge environmental issues. E-waste management has been developed by maintaining a repair centre for computers and other machinery. The usable parts from non-working machines are removed and kept for the replacement and remaining parts are discarded by the outside vendors for their own recycling processes.
Waste recycling:
SIMATS has the extensive setup of the 2 MLD Sewage Treatment Plants to recycle the waste water. Further, Treated Sewage water reuse for toilet flushing, Green Belt Development, Park plantation and village avenue plantation. SIMATS has also encouraged the use of degradable plates with banana leaf, degradable tea cups at all food courts to reduce plastic usage.
SIMATS waste management Policy:
We strictly follow a zero emission policy inside the campus to reduce carbon dioxide emission and pollution management using battery operated cars and free shuttle services for the public inside the campus.
The Institute has conducted several workshops on the implementation of effective techniques to recycle the wastes.
The workers are highly advised for personal protection by the use of face masks, hand gloves, boots, head gears, eye covers and aprons.
SIMATS encourages the students, staff and other office bearers through rewards who come up with innovative ideas for reducing and recycling the waste.
SIMATS having donation stations for recycling household wastes by collecting furniture, bed sheets, pillow covers, and mattresses from final year students to donate to others who are in needed.
SIMATS has Swachh Bharat Mission to develop awareness about waste management among the students and implemented zero plastic waste practices.
NSS and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan volunteers have created the waste management awareness in people who live in the surrounding village area.
