Outpatient and Inpatient care to patients in Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences ( SIMATS ) is provided at Saveetha Medical College Hospital Campus – Thandalam and Saveetha Dental College Hospital Campus – Poonamallee. Outpatient clinics in both medical and dental college hospitals function daily from 8 am to 8 pm. In addition to routine outpatient and inpatient services, the hospitals in both medical college and dental college run 24 hours emergency services.
Saveetha Medical College offers 1 undergraduate ( MBBS ), 20 Postgraduate ( MD/MS ) and 6 super speciality (DM/MCh) courses as per National Medical Commission (NMC)/ Medical Council of India (MCI ) guidelines. The student intake per year is 250 for MBBS, 132 for MD/MS and 12 for DM/MCh respectively. Saveetha Medical College offers postgraduate courses in 6 non clinical and 13 clinical specialities. 3 courses in medical super-speciality and 3 courses in surgical super-speciality are also programs currently offered. As per NMC/MCI requirements, a daily outpatient and inpatient census of 3000 patients is required. The current outpatient and inpatient count in 1200 bedded Saveetha Medical College Hospital is 3240 per day. This is 12% more than required outpatient and inpatient count required vis-à-vis for the prescribed students trained and programs offered in the college. The 1200 bedded hospital always has 100% occupancy. In medical college hospitals around 8.5 to 9.14 lakh patients have been treated every year since 2016 in both outpatient and inpatient services. Around 34789 surgeries are performed per year in medical college hospitals. 6782 covid patients were treated during the pandemic and 37555 RT-PCR tests for covid was done.
Saveetha Dental College offers 1 undergraduate ( BDS) and 9 Postgraduate ( MDS ) courses as per Dental Council of India (DCI ) guidelines. The student intake per year is 100 for BDS and 51 for MDS respectively. As per DCI requirements, a daily outpatient and inpatient census of 744 patients is required. The current outpatient and inpatient count in Saveetha Dental College Hospital is 1310 per day. This is 76% more than required outpatient and inpatient count required vis-à-vis for the prescribed students trained and programs offered in the college. The 40 bedded Saveetha Dental College hospital also always has a 100% occupancy rate. In the dental college hospital around 3.78 - 4 lakh patients are treated every year since 2016 in both outpatient and inpatient services. Patient record management is fully digitalised and this is in tune with the current digital era of hospital patient record maintenance. The digitalisation of patient records further enhances patient care and patient periodic follow up. Digitalisation of patient records and images especially radiographs and other investigation images helps in data retrieval and also effective patient doctor communication. The software in the HIMS is constantly updated. The patient details in digital format are readily accessible for research projects.

There has been a consistent increase in the outpatient and inpatient census since 2016 with an average of more than 3000 patients in medical college hospitals and more than 1000 patients in dental college hospitals. This volume of patient inflow allows exhaustive and very high quality training to both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The undergraduate students in dental college campus perform procedures like root canal fillings, implants, orthodontic treatment which is usually done by postgraduates in other colleges. This clinical exposure allows undergraduate students to get moulded into competent dentists and manage patients successfully in private dental practice after graduation. Saveetha Dental College serves also as a tertiary referral centre where very complicated cases from all over the country are referred for surgical and medical management for their diseases. The institute also serves as a centre for providing quality dental care for patients with special needs and disabilities. To further improve patient inflow, enhance the quality of education and training facilities in the medical and dental hospital campus, Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences has currently spent ₹1300 crores on patient welfare to improve the quality and quantity of health care delivery to society. This includes ₹613 crores towards free surgeries and ₹587 crores towards dental treatment. As an incentive to encourage meritorious students to perform better, scholarship and financial aid of ₹27 crores is used. To reduce the economic burden of patients, 10.4 crores has been spent to supply free food to the patients in addition to the free treatment. In the dental hospital, 9 crores has been spent till date to offer implant based prosthesis to patients to improve their oral health and quality of life. To create social awareness in disease prevention, 12 crores has been spent. These measures will definitely further increase the outpatient and inpatient census, offer sophisticated state of training to our medical and dental trainees. These service measures will certainly contribute towards healthy nation building .
