"Breathe Freely: Uniting Against Tobacco on World No TobaccoDay 2023"

The Department of Public Health Dentistry at Saveetha Dental College and Hospital inChennai celebrated "World No Tobacco Day" on May 31, 2023. The departmentorganized various awareness activities in collaboration with the NSS Unit, Saveetha

Dental College, and the Madras Branch of the Indian Dental Association (IDA). Thetheme for this year, "Grow food, not tobacco," as adopted by the World HealthOrganization, guided the events.

To promote the prevention of tobacco use, the department employed placards, banners,skits, rallies, and awareness talks. As a symbolic gesture for World No Tobacco Day2023, ashtrays adorned with fresh flowers were utilized. Students, both postgraduatesand undergraduates, from Saveetha Dental College and Hospital actively participated ina "Quit Tobacco" rally at Chennai's Elliot's Beach. The rally, which aimed to raisawareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use, was organized by the IDA Madrasbranch in collaboration with the Cancer Institute (WIA) in Adyar, Chennai. The rally tookplace from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
