Amazing Online Efforts During Lockdown
150/150 Perfect score in QS® E-Lead certification of Online excellence in education during the pandemic!
Saveetha Medical College is one of the top 5 COVID speciality hospitals in India - Awarded by Union Minister of Health, in association with India Today.
Within 12 hours of announcing the lockdown, Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences was the first institution to start online classes with ‘ZERO’ hour loss in academic progress. Due to our CBCS system, students of LAW and Engineering were able to attend more courses online. Overall the Engineering program launched over 800+ courses and our LAW program launched 190+ courses during lockdown enabling students to complete numerous electives and non- lab oriented courses. Our dental program was the only institution in the country to start PG EXAMS in June 2020. MILA - our unique teaching methodology was perfect for online classes with 15 minutes of instruction followed by 30 minutes of activity. Attendance was taken by the hour and our Students engaged in numerous innovative activities like using a grinder to show centrifugal force and charts to visualize complex concepts. Annexure 1,2,3,4. We used licensed software like ZOOM®, Kaizala®, MOODLE®, Google Classroom® SCHOOLOGY®, TOUCH-ON-CLOUD®. We also used our own software Saveetha ARMS® to document attendance and launch online no-dues and exams.
SIMATS, was the only hospital in Chennai to not turnback a single patient during lockdown. Numerous patients were referred to us even from government hospitals stating that no-one was willing to treat them. Saveetha Medical College is the approved testing center for phase 3 trials of Astra ZENCA COVISHIED® vaccine Annexure 7. We were awarded as one of the top 5 COVID specialty hospitals in the country by Union Health Minister, organized by India Today® Annexure 6.
We also focused a lot on research output, where researchers began manuscript preparation of all those old and left out studies that were not published due to follow up issues etc. Therefore we were able to publish over 3000 papers that would not have been possible without the time available during lockdown to finish years of pending work. Our institution is also proud to be the only University in Chennai to have paid all our faculty in full during the entire lock down period. We created special rubrics to give additional incentives for the work done from home (WFH) reports and our faculty poured-over thousands of hours to provide excellence. Our parents received daily reports of work done by their wards from their mentors. This had boosted the confidence in our system. Overall we are very proud of our efforts for online education during the pandemic that helped us become one among the few institutions to score a perfect 150/150 in the QS E-Lead Certification.
