Commemorative Days and Festivals Celebration


SIMATS has organised over 500 events to celebrate various commemorative days and festivals to inculcate the spirit of patriotism to the Nation, remembering our freedom struggle and commendable sacrifices made by our leaders. Events are planned to sensitive gender equity amongst the students. These programmes also create an awareness on health care and make the students environment conscious. The values of cultural diversity and national integration are further strengthened by organising and celebrating these events.

Republic Day and Independence Day are celebrated signifying the commendable sacrifices made by our freedom fighters at the time of independence. All the faculty members, non teaching staff and students are present for the flag hoisting by our Chancellor Dr. N.M. Veeraiyan. A splendid march past is displayed by the students. A Presidential speech is given by the Vice Chancellor. Over 10,800 students and over 18,000 teaching and non teaching staff and invitees attended the Republic Day and Independence Day celebrations during 2015-2021. 

The other commemorative days such as Kargil Vijay Diwas Day, National Unity Day, International Yoga Day and International Youth Day are celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm in the University. Programmes sensitizing gender equity such as International Women’s Day, Mother’s Day, Children’s Day, Breast Feeding Day, Population Day, International Widows Day, are celebrated by the students in the campus. These events are conducted by the students for various representatives from the society. Over 10,200 people participated in these events during 2015-2021.

Health care and awareness are vital for all students, staff and the society at large. Programmes and events such as World Heart Day, World AIDS Day, International day on drug Abuse and Trafficking, World Liver Day, World Cancer Day, World Tuberculosis Day and World Diabetes Day are celebrated by the staff and students Symbolizing that “Health is Wealth ''. Over 6,200 students and beneficiaries from society participated.  To make the student’s environment conscious, World Environment Day with tree plantations in campus and outside campus and paper Bags Day are celebrated. Over 10,000 staff and students actively participated in tree plantations during 2015 – 2021.

National festivals are celebrated to promote values of cultural diversity and national integration and brotherhood among the staff and students. Festivals like Pongal, Navarathri, Onam and Christmas are celebrated with a lot of joy and enthusiasm in the University.

Founder’s Day is celebrated every year with a lot of enthusiasm by the staff and students of Saveetha University. Life time achievement awards to eminent professionals, faculty awards to faculty having contributed to research, awards to student toppers, best departments for their contribution to the development of the University, are given by the Chancellor. The Chancellor is cordially felicitated by the staff. A cultural programme is showcased by the students.

These commemorative days and events form an integral part of students' education at SIMATS, providing students with a holistic education.
