IT Infrastructure at SIMATS

The education system in Saveetha University has been completely revamped to integrate the use of digital devices to make learning easier as well as convenient through the entire course duration. To accomplish this, we have provided around 2600 iPads to our students to access course content for multiple subjects without having to carry books for each subject. We have prepared approximately 1000 iBooks modules and uploaded them to the iTunes U portal so that every student throughout our campus can access the lecture content at their behest.

Another feather in our cap is the ARMS system (Academic Record Management System) implemented in 2017 where the student attendance, academic performance, internal assessment grades are recorded and used to generate their digital no dues for exam eligibility at the end of the year.

The digital progression at Saveetha University has extended into the clinical side as well with the use of our DIAS software (Dental Information Archival Software). Our proprietary software allows our students to record patient details and treatment procedures in a swift comprehensive manner and our teaching faculty can monitor the student’s progress with each procedure at any time.

With our ARMS and DIAS systems, we also claim the honour of being the First University in India to shift to a completely paperless record management system thereby emphasizing our conformation with the Green Initiative and the National ‘Swacchh Bharath’ Program.

The successful implementation of so many digital services is not possible without a strong IT infrastructure within the University. The IT team at Saveetha has updated our intranet facilities to 7 AAA servers out of a total 25 servers with 3 leased lines of upto 1000 MBPS cumulative bandwidth (made possible by a partnership with BSNL, Vodafone™ India in 2018) throughout the entire university. A dedicated team of 25 IT professionals are on-site at all times to maintain data stability as well as to troubleshoot any possible issues. Another radical change is our shift to a Circular Fibre Channel throughout various buildings within the campus with a two-way stream such that any interruption in data transfer does not affect the server stability at any time.

Our IT team also includes Video Editors and a 3D model designer with sophisticated software such as Final Cut Pro and Autodesk Maya to produce in-house educational content for our 1000 iBooks modules and flipped class lectures.

There are 3210 computers (400 PCs of which were purchased in 2018 alone) and 100 smart TVs to provide a completely linked campus. A fully functional biometric system is used to accurately track staff and student attendance with 60 biometric scanners installed at vantage access points. To provide a highly secure campus, 300 surveillance cameras and 40 TV monitors with backup servers are installed all across the campus.  A fully functional desktop publishing unit is present in the campus to facilitate academic printing work of the staff and students.
